My name is Amanda – thanks for stopping by. Well, if you’re reading this, then you likely know me (hi, mom). I’ve been tossing around the idea of starting a new blog (shoutout to the real fans who remember my first one) and finally took the leap!
I get questions about my recipes, travels, and gardening pretty regularly so I thought this would be a great place to share. I have always loved writing (and if we’re being honest, talking) and COVID-19 quarantine means I only really have Jess to talk to and he’s probably tired of me telling him all about the basil plants that are out of control or that I booked that flight to Paris “just in case borders reopen by then” (yes, really….).
So what should you expect from Amanda At Home & Abroad?
At Home: recipes, my gardening adventures (and frequent mishaps), the occasional sewing tutorial, photos of my adorable animals
Abroad: destination reviews, packing lists, tips on how to travel solo, how I budget and create itineraries for my travels

2020 was supposed to be my year of European adventures, but it is turning out to be the year I travel America’s National Parks! Jess and I cancelled a trip originally scheduled for May to England and Scotland, but I’m still holding out hope for France and Germany later this year.
In March, just as the pandemic was taking off in the US, I spent a few days in southern Utah hiking Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks. Then, in June we took a socially distant family vacation to the Rocky Mountains – Estes Park is a tried and true favorite of mine. Now I am gearing up (literally I suppose…) to go on my first solo camping adventure over Labor Day Weekend – headed to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks for the first time!
As the year goes on, I hope to give some updates on these travels, share what’s growing (or dying because of over and/or under watering) in my backyard, and plan my next great adventure – whether that is here at home or somewhere far away.
Feel free to drop a comment if you have any content requests!

Have fun in the Tetons, they are gorgeous. We absolutely love Yellowstone. Remember that our niece Emily lives on the Idaho side of the Tetons if you need anything. Can’t wait to see photos and read all about your adventures. Be safe! Love you 😍
Hello there cousin! Give your Grandma a hug for me!
Love this, and love you! Can’t wait to read about all of your adventures & hoping the pet kids make appearances!
